The Mobile User
Like many distributed applications, mobile computing requires
highly available data.
A mobile user needs his business and personal data at work, at home and on
his flights.
This data must be available on his
home machine,
his office machine
and his portable.
This data is therefore replicated.
However mobiles may rarely connect to stationary networks either
because of the cost or the bandwidth restrictions of wireless
communication.
This exacerbates the consistency problem.
An optimistic scheme is essential for maintaining consistency in such an
environment.
