LOGTAIL(8) System Manager's Manual LOGTAIL(8) NAME logtail - cat the newly appended tail of a file SYNOPSIS logtail file [offset-file] DESCRIPTION Logtail is used to monitor files, such as log files, that have inter- esting information regularly appended to them. The first time it is run, it concatenates the entire contents of file to standard output, and records the amount of data in offset-file (default file.offset). On subsequent invocations with the same arguments, only newly informa- tion will be copied to the standard output. If file has become smaller or has been replaced with another that has the same name, logtail assumes that the log has been rotated and resets the recorded offset to zero. FILES *.offset Record of last-seen position in the monitored file. AUTHOR Craig H. Rowland. Manual page by Geoff Kuenning (geoff@cs.hmc.edu). LOGTAIL(8)
